This is not an issue of setting the proper language under the review tab.

The proper names differ from the the master document language. The documents (and my PC) are all prepare to United kingdom English, but the subject area thing of each written report focuses on a different country. And so I have a number of geographic locations (generally small towns and villages) and a number of foreign authors appearing in an English language text. Also, because they're proper names, it really wouldn't matter what language I accept the PC/Discussion gear up to.

Further, turning off spell-checking is exactly what I'one thousand trying not to practise. Word is randomly (or has the appearance of randomness) of telling me there are too many spelling errors and then it'due south turning off spell checking for this document. This is the root of the question---how to not plough off spell check.

Right, I go and appreciate what you're saying, but while it's appropriate for certain contexts, it'south definitely not for the questions I'm asking. To be articulate, I am familiar with the language setting of the PC and the general linguistic communication setting(s) of Word. Almost all of my reports caput to a graphic designer before publishing, so I'm very familiar with tying style commands and macros to keyboard and mouse shortcuts.

I regularly apply a citation style which includes no proofing to instance name citations in legal work. This is not hard when washed as the certificate is prepared.

The bulletin/warning that Word displays simply means what it says: Word has found more spelling errors than information technology can display. If your primary goal is to get rid of the mistake bulletin, applying "Do not check spelling or grammar" formatting to the whole certificate is the easiest solution. I realize that it isn't what you want, because you notwithstanding desire to be able to spellcheck some words. The alternatives would hateful a lot of transmission work, as Charles has already mentioned.

Well, what triggers it is "besides many spelling errors." What we don't know is how many is "likewise many"; I suspect it depends on your system resource (RAM, free HD infinite, etc.). In any case, as Stefan says, the best way to retain your sanity (without having to add together all your "misspelled" words to the user dictionary) is to format the words as "Do not cheque spelling or grammar," every bit explained at http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/MasterSpellCheck.htm#ExemptingText.

I compiled a 600-page certificate primarily equanimous of transcriptions of letters to and from my father. My male parent's were relatively literate, but some of his correspondents were not very good spellers. I wanted to impress the letters unedited, and so I had to format a lot of actually misspelled words as No Proofing in society to take "Check spelling as you type" nevertheless functional so I could take hold of my own typos.

Cheers everyone. It seems it was a hard question to phrase and I call back I ended upward beating the poor horse.

I retrieve what makes the outcome so vexing isn't the general limitation (although from a technical standpoint, I must admit to being baffled past information technology—particularly with 18GB of RAM and tons of free SDD space, this should be a trivial limit to overcome. And given modern machines, that's really non all that special. And heck, even with a smaller amount of RAM I'd expect to get an out-of-retentivity fault (whoa, that hearkens back to Windows 98!) before a Word mistake—especially given its integration with other Function products.

So my idle curiosity wants to ask my database/programming friends what I'm missing math-wise as to what makes Word accept some sort of a relatively modest limit like this. I did a count (Pick.Range.SpellingErrors / .count) and there were nigh 2000 errors in a sub-50K document. Add in the size of Give-and-take'southward dictionary and perhaps it is a larger corporeality of processing than I expect.

Anyway, what really boggles my mind, what made me go on thinking information technology was something I was overlooking was the apparent randomness of it all. How I could be working on the same certificate for hours on end when POOF, here comes the error. And so it goes away. Then it comes back for a short while, then gone once more.

The transcription sounds similar a true labour of love. I love my work, simply it's a chip shy of my father'due south letters!

I should have said my late father's letters. These were from the period when he was merely starting his career and and then joining the army in January 1942 and so courting my female parent in 1943 (and a lot of the letters to him were from the girls who ultimately wrote him Honey John messages), then they were pretty interesting. I have another volume (756 pages) of the letters he wrote to my female parent the year he was in Italia later in the war (only after I was built-in). I printed/published the volumes just for interested family members, though I did share the war letters (on CD) with the WWII Museum in New Orleans and the Tennessee State Archives (he was a native Tennessean).

I think you have already got the only workable fix, create a grapheme style with no spell cheque.  Just go comfortable with the appropriate keyboard/mouse shortcuts to select the offending text and use the style. Or get into the habit of periodically doing a spell bank check and applying the no spell cheque style to appropriate finds.

It doesn't have the data you are looking for.

Office apps like Word (and fifty-fifty Windows) have lots of historical "baggage".  Decisions made in the lawmaking that made sense at the time, but are no longer relevant or advisable.  The problem with making these types of pattern decisions using hard coded values is that fixing them in the future is hard.

If you expect in the link I provided above, you'll see some of the limits are based on binary values (max value a binary field can concur) and others are merely arbitrary.
